CEM Physical Therapy
Mobile App · AI-Powered Physical Therapy Application · 2026
Overview
CEM Physical Therapy is an AI-powered mobile application designed to improve accessibility and adherence for physical therapy patients. The project began after firsthand experience working as a physical therapy aide, where many patients did not complete their prescribed exercises due to a lack of understanding or forgetfulness. The app guides patients from onboarding through daily recovery, combining a gamified Recovery Score, visual exercise cards, encrypted AI support, and clinic-connected events within a HIPAA-conscious environment.

Case study
-
Problem
Home exercise programs are central to physical therapy, yet compliance remains low. Once patients leave the clinic, confusion about exercises, forgetfulness, isolation from care teams, and invisible progress lead many to skip their routines, slowing recovery and increasing strain on both patients and therapists.
-
Research
Shaped by direct observation as a PT aide: patients repeatedly asked the same questions (ice vs. heat, rep counts), forgot exercise instructions between visits, had no sense of weekly progress, and valued clinic community. The insight is that patients need the right information at the right time in a format that motivates follow-through.

Solution
CEM Physical Therapy reframes home exercise compliance as a guided recovery journey across six connected screens. Onboarding builds trust, the Recovery Score gamifies consistency, visual exercise cards with AI form tips reduce confusion, an encrypted assistant answers common questions, and Events & News keeps the clinic present in daily life.

Projected Outcomes
Higher home exercise completion through clarity and gamified feedback; fewer unnecessary clinic calls via AI support; improved appointment attendance; stronger engagement between visits; and reduced repetitive education tasks for therapists.
